Hey there! If you are reading this then that means you are on your way to your death bed (lol I'm just kidding.. or am I?)
Before I start I would just like to Congratulate you on getting your high school diploma! That is definitely a milestone to be proud of!
Real talk now.
My dear, you are now on your way to adulthood. You are no baby anymore. High school was fun and college IS DEFINITELY A FUN RIDE TOO but remember that in college, you are on your own. You have to know how to stand up on your two feet, be responsible, be organized and learn how to balance everything and that includes fun, academics and relationships.  (In HIghschool you may not study and still get a high grade but in College that is a no.no)
From my four years in college I would like to share to you what I did to stay on track and how I survived.

1. START COLLEGE RIGHT:
Pick a Course that you know deep down is something you really want, I have been lucky enough that my parents respected my decision to enroll in a course I decided to take. Remember 4 years is a long time so make it worth your while.

2. CUTE THINGS DEFINITELY HELPS:
I am a total sucker of anything cute and fun looking, I have my school supplies in different colours, designs, etc. It definitely helped me in times of hardships and struggles.

Check out this places for cute school supplies around the city:
A. PAPEMELROTI

A CLASSIC
B. NATIONAL BOOKSTORE
Your number one stop for your school supplies

C. FULLY BOOKED

D. THE PAPER STONE

3. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXTRA CLASSES:
Want to learn a new language? take advantage of the opportunity.

4. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ONLINE ENROLMENT:
NO MORE LINES!

5. GET A TRUSTY PLANNER:
Oftentimes, people would rather use their phone because it's a bit more convenient but personally I prefer to go old school. It's satisfying to see your to do list all crossed out by the end of the day.

6. INVEST IN A LAPTOP:
In College, a laptop is a must especially for research, presentations and if you are a communication student like me? for your pre prod and post prod editing. Some professors will allow you to take notes through your laptop so don't just bring out your laptop and start typing.. ask your professor first beforehand.

7. A STURDY, THIEFT PROOF BAG:
Commuting in the city isn't the best place to flaunt your designer bag unless you want to catch the attention of the dwellers. If you have your own car then that's great! if you don't? better play it safe than sorry.

8. JOIN EXTRA-CURRICULARS:
The best thing you can do in your stay in college is to join organizations, it's a great way to meet new friends, find your passion and discover yourself.

9. SEEK A BALANCE AND MANAGE YOUR TIME :
Big test tomorrow? better to skip on tonights party. Just join or plan the next one.

10. ATTEND YOUR ORIENTATION:
Students often times skip this part, but really. it's an important event to attend to especially on your first year.

Those are the major things that I did that definitely helped in my college journey.

Interesting enough, I found an article that listed down the major reasons why students drop out or quit. here they are:

Top 10 Reasons College Students Leave/Drop-Out

  1. Too much fun at the expense of classes and grades
  2. A sense of not belonging; a sense of isolation, homesickness
  3. Academically unprepared; burned-out on education
  4. Financial constraints; low on funds
  5. Personal family issues
  6. Academic climate/fit
  7. Choice of wrong major; major not offered
  8. Lack of advising, guidance
  9. Demands from part-time or full-time employment
  10. Move to a different geographic location
